For the past year, our ears have been full of Richard Bedford’s voice. Above & Beyond lent their considerable creative prowess and an absolutely massive touring campaign to their last album, Group Therapy, and they’ve been delivering track after heartfelt (and heartbreak-tinged) track ever since. Sun & Moon and Thing Called Love, both featuring Richard’s vocals, rank up there with the tracks I’ve heard the most at festivals and clubs alike in the last 18 months, while You Got To Go, with second featured vocalist Zoe Johnston, is rapidly joining them.
Recently, Above & Beyond have finally been giving the remix treatment to some of their less-spotlit vocal album tracks, playing tantalizing teasers of club mixes for Alchemy, Every Little Beat, and newest single On My Way To Heaven. Aside from Black Room Boy, which features the vocals of A&B’s own Tony McGuinness, On My Way To Heaven has some of the strongest songwriting on Group Therapy and is one of my favorite tracks from the album.
The Beatport single release comes with a standard club mix, adapting the original very slightly for club play, and an extended mix of the album version. A dubstep mix courtesy of Seven Lions is out as well, and two more laid-back trance interpretations from Tomas Heredia and Lenno are forthcoming—but each of these is basically just decoration for what is arguably Richard Bedford’s most compelling vocal performance on Group Therapy, and it deserves its place in the spotlight just as much as the others.
In other A&B news, the group has released a new fan video called Moments Like These (see below) that documents their tours over the past year. The video features a brand new instrumental piece of music from Above & Beyond titled Small Moments. As a thank you to all the fans who have joined them on their tour, Jono, Tony and Paavo have made Small Moments available as a free download from their Facebook page.
