Forget Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao, there’s a new supreme rivalry: HARD Events vs Electric Daisy Carnival, or more specifically, HARD founder Gary Richards, aka Destructo, vs Insomniac Events CEO Pasquale Rotella. In the newest flurry of punches following the news of Richards’ legal suit against Rotella, it looks like artists will be forced to choose between HARD and EDC.
The announcement of the EDC Las Vegas lineup brought 200+ names into the fold for the the June festival, but there were some very conspicuous absences–90 names, to be exact. Every single artist on the HARD Summer lineup, including Jack U, Porter Robinson, and Dillon Francis, has not been booked to perform at EDC Las Vegas. Likewise, not a single artist from the EDC lineup has been booked for HARD Summer.
The Rotella/Richards rivalry has drawn a line in the sand–you are either pro-EDC or pro-Hard. How will this effect the EDM landscape, and will this splinter the fanbase? Only time will tell.
