When I think of artist Ben Gold, the words uplifting and progressive don’t exactly come to mind. Gold’s the kind of producer who brings the word “trance” back to “trance.” Just imagine the hard stuff you hear at large venues when a trance DJ really wants to get the crowd going. If you know what I’m talking about, there’s a chance you’ve experienced a Ben Gold bomb dropped by Armin or Tiesto.
Just recently at Electric Zoo, I saw Gareth Emery drop Gold’s new remix of the trance classic Platinum by Nenes & Pascal Feliz. Needless to say, the track’s hard kinetic beats and fantastically dark melody got the whole tent thumping.
At 25, Gold’s already received all the acclaim any up-and-coming trance artist would die for, including multiple Tune Of The Week and Record Of The Week awards on Armin’s and Above & Beyond’s weekly radio shows, respectively. In 2009, his massive track Sunstroke became one of the most popular trance tracks of the summer. Like his other releases, Sunstroke is stylistically marked by Gold’s hard techy beats and staccato synths that sort of remind me of Sandstorm (but a lot better of course).
Ben Gold is breathing new life into old school trance. Check him out!
