Though it may not be a full-fledged change of direction, Midnight, which finds the British band occupying a beatless digital space reminiscent of Imogen Heap, certainly suggests that the group hasn’t given up on its more experimental leanings with age. Moroder latches onto the hint of a pulse found toward the end of the original mix, fleshing it out into a sprawling, four-on-the-floor journey. And he doesn’t stop there–the Italian electro pioneer rounds out the remix with shimmering choir harmonies and even some of those trademarked robot-like vocoder vocals, waxing in French on the original tune’s themes of city lights and nightlife.
The original version of Midnight comes from Coldplay’s sixth studio album Ghost Stories, out May 19. That’s the music video below. The remix is available now on iTunes.
