22 year-old dubstep extraordinaire Thomas Slinger, aka Gemini, exploded onto the scene in 2010 with his debut single Blue. A year later, his outstanding Graduation EP solidified his place as a young artist to keep a close eye on. The young UK producer has now released his newest EP, titled Mercury, and it’s an out-of-this-world experience.
The Mercury EP is a five track tour-de-force released on Gemini’s own Inspected Records. The EP offers a wide range of sounds and style–tracks go from 90bpm all the way up to 140bpm and jump between electro house and dubstep without stopping for breath. First up is Robots, an electro house ballad that features the vocals of Gemini himself. This is traditional electro at its best and an extremely fun song to dance to. Freedom is a dark, hard-hitting electro track that has received the support of superstars such as Tiesto and Axwell and should continue to blow up. Losing My Way is a bit of a change-up from Gemini’s traditional style, but that’s not to say it isn’t good. He manages to create a dark and foreboding song that’s more chilled out than the first three tracks, something much appreciated. The last song on the EP is Second Law, and it’s my personal favorite. It’s dark, fast-paced, and reminds me of The M Machine’s Black, which is certainly a good thing.
