Just as the Romanian wilderness is the current epicenter of minimal house, Lithuania may soon turn into a hub for melodic deep tech. The elusive Ten Walls is leading that charge, building on sounds championed by the Life & Death and Innervisions crews, but the relatively unknown Mindaugas Lapinskis is hot on his heels with new project, Gardens of God.
As trends in deep tech and house shift to more trancey, journey-esque territory, the Ys EP stands out as an exemplary version of that sound. All three tracks are dark, melancholy, and mesmerizing–synth-happy earworms from beginning to end. Each is so skillfully produced that it’s tough to single just one out, the favorite changing with every repeated listen. It sounds like Maceo Plex struck gold in picking this silky debut up for his Ellum imprint. Ys is “out soon.”
