New Orleans bounce artist Nicky Da B has passed away at the untimely age of 24, according to Rolling Stone. The official cause of death has yet to be released, although reports of a brief illness have surfaced from management.
The vibrant purveyor of the southern bounce scene shot to superstardom in 2012 when he teamed up with Diplo on chart-topping anthem Express Yourself (seen in the video below). The fearless performer who possessed talents in production, dance, and rap is a figurehead for the success of the NOLA electronic music scene. More notably, Da B helped take the then-underground dance style known as “twerking” and establish it as the international phenomenon we know today.
His unexpected passing comes as a true blow to the dance community, with fans and DJs alike feeling a great loss:
