What happens at The Burn doesn’t stay at The Burn–you’ll take with you an abundance of life lessons, friendships, and memories… also, you’ll be cleaning Playa dirt out of places you didn’t know you had for weeks. It’s Friday Favorites 70.
Booty Bass | Wuki – Nest HQ Minimix [Free Download]
A mix on Friday Favorites, you say? How can this be? Just press play. Denver-based Wuki is one of the newest artists on OWSLA’s roster, further cementing the label as one who is constantly pushing the envelope in electronic music. With influences that range from ghettotech to Miami bass, footwork, and breaks, Wuki could make a dead man twerk in his grave. Download the 30-minute mix he did for Nest HQ and view the tracklist here.
Drum & Bass | Netsky feat. Beth Ditto – Running Low (Extended Mix) [Ultra]
Belgium’s Netsky must’ve known I was Running Low on heavy-hitting vocal drum & bass. His latest is powered by classic, grinding D&B bass tones that reach full power and hold, trembling under the gravity of Beth Ditto’s desperate pleas for companionship. Pick up your copy here.
Future Bass | deadmau5 – Strobe (Prince Fox Remix) [Free Download]
Reworking Strobe is a risky endeavor–not only is it one of deadmau5′ most popular songs, it also happens to be one of the most critically acclaimed tracks in the history of electronic music. That doesn’t seem to have fazed Prince Fox, who follows up last week’s remix of Route 94′s My Love with yet another stunning production. I’m not sure what I love more, the reworked melody or the bass-heavy climax, but one thing is for certain: this prince is straight royalty. Grab your free download here.
Trance | Sy Gardner – The Raid (Original Mix) [Tytanium]|
It’s a bank holiday weekend here in the UK, so what better way to celebrate than a nice dose of full-on belting trance? The Raid is the latest work from British producer Sy Gardner and it’s all about those massive uplifting riffs. Out now on Tytanium Recordings, The Raid is just right to get you in the mood for the weekend and whatever you’ve got planned.
Indie/Beats | Mark Lanegan Band – Sad Lover (Josh Homme Remix)
We all knew that Queens Of The Stone Age frontman Josh Homme was a part-time producer, but who knew he could pull off such a slick electronic remix? Homme has teamed up with former bandmate Mark Lanegan to remix a track off Lanegan’s latest EP No Bells On Sunday. Lanegan and Homme’s musical partnership can be traced all the way back to the early days of QOTSA. Lanegan contributed to the band’s first album, Rated R, in 2000 before becoming a full-time band member through 2005. He also made an appearance on QOTSA’s 2013 album …Like Clockwork. Homme returns the favor and proves that his talents go far beyond the realm of rock ‘n’ roll as he turns Lanegan’s steaming fuzz ballad into a cybertronic cloud of industrial distortion.
Electro Pop | Blood Orange – It Is What It Is [Domino]
In honor of the highly anticipated FYF Fest this weekend, I have to send a huge shout-out to one of my all-time favorite bands, none other than the funky, the soulful, and the always spiritually soothing Blood Orange. It Is What It Is comes from their Cupid Deluxe album, which, despite being released nearly one year ago, will forever remain timeless in my eyes (and ears). If you’re digging this vibe as much as I am, feel free to stream more of their beautiful creations here.
Downtempo | Cyril Hahn feat. Ryan Ashley – Open (Original Mix) [PMR]
Everything we’ve heard from Cyril Hahn’s upcoming EP, Voices, has been sensational, and his latest release is no different. This week, the Swiss producer unveiled Open, an intoxicatingly smooth and sexy track featuring an intricate beat, glistening synths, and dreamy vocals from Hahn’s PMR labelmate Ryan Ashley. It’s deep, it’s emotional, and it’s Hahn at his absolute best. No word on the EP’s official release date yet, but it can’t get here soon enough.
Trance | Neptune Project – Lost All My Tears [Future Sound Of Egypt]
Neptune Project’s Lost All My Tears is one of my favorite vocal trance tracks of the year so far. I have a special affinity for
trance tunes with sad lyrics, and this track plucks my heart strings pretty deeply. The breakdown has quite the sentimental guitar melody,
and the male vocals come across very sincerely. You can download Neptune Project’s Lost All My Tears here on Beatport.
