Aww, don’t worry, Easter Bunny. You’re not the first idea to be given up on by today’s youth. Think of yourself like a long-lost legend frozen in time, like the Tooth Fairy, or landing a job after graduating college. It’s Friday Favorites 52, which reminds us: happy birthday, Friday Favorites! You’re a year older and wiser.
Trance | Richard Durand|Morning Light (Original Mix) [Magik Muzik]
Richard Durand is the unsung hero of trance music, with a catalog that deserves much more popularity than it may have gained. His latest release, Morning Light, Reminds me of a trancier Lift Off by W&W, with a similar low acid bassline in the drop amid sparkling synths. Pick it up here.
Glitch Hop | Kill Paris – The Walk (Original Mix) [OWSLA]
Nothing like a little new material from the modern master of future-funk before the weekend starts to put some swag in your step and some swoon in your wake. Pick up this one, along with the rest of Kill Paris’ Foreplay EP, April 29 on OWSLA.
Tech House | Sascha Funke – Mango (Special Berlin Calling Edit) [BPitch Control]
Truth be told, Deep Dish’s recent Essential Mix was so good that I could have gone with any of the 28 songs they played, but I would be remiss if I didn’t show some love for the opening tune, Mango. Expansive and introspective, the spiritual soiree serves as a sensational entry point for the group after an eight-year hiatus, offering up spellbinding sounds that will both bemuse and bewitch your body and brain. Grab it here.
Progressive House | Vitodito & Soulforge – Dreamer’s Corner (Original Mix) [Encanta]
Italian producer Vitodito has just released another collaboration with Soulforge on his own Encanta label. I found little info about either of these guys online, but it’s clear they know what they’re doing when it comes to production. Dreamer’s Corner is a driving piece of progressive trance, with some amazing synth work and a fantastically summery feel about it. With support from some of the big guns, these guys should become familiar names on the scene if they keep kicking out tracks like this. Get it here.
Indie & Beats | Common – I Want You (Kaytranada Edition) [HW&W]
Another week, another reminder that Kaytranada is currently at the top of his game. If today’s new track Friday Night with Reva DeVito left you wanting more, there’s always last year’s fantastic remix of I Want You by Common to fall back on, which somehow flew under my radar when it originally surfaced. Kay’s trademark bass design and heavily sidechained mix are both in full effect here, but what really sells this track is his skillful application of the original mix’s “I want… you” hook. There’s an entire universe of melancholia lingering between those words. Download for free in exchange for some Facebook love for Kay’s label HW&W.
Nu Disco | Duck Sauce – Ring Me (Original Mix) [Fool’s Gold]
There are many reasons to love Quack, the dynamic and ridiculously fun debut album from Duck Sauce, with Ring Me being one of them. With massive keyboard cascades and plenty of funky sound bites, this track perfectly embodies the throwback disco vibe of duo A-Trak and Armand Van Helden. Grab the track on Beatport, and get quackin’.
Indie & Beats | Jagwar Ma – Uncertainty (Cut Copy Remix)
Australia. Australia. Australia. The amount of EDM coming out of that country is incredible–borderline absurd. In the midst of all the rising young acts making their way onto the scene, there’s still plenty of room for the veterans of Australian dance music to make some noise. For their latest remix, Cut Copy has reworked fellow countrymen Jagwar Ma’s 2013 breakout single Uncertainty. Featured on Jagwar Ma’s new Uncertainty Remixes EP, Cut Copy turns the the track into an elongated, accelerated stretch of electronic euphoria. A tapestry of delicate synth and astral tones are woven across the digital confines of Jagwar Ma’s decisive, dynamic beats, making for an exceptional mix of intertwining melodies. The Uncertainty Remixes EP is available to download now on iTunes here.
Dubstep | Zeds Dead – Hadouken (Original Mix) [Free Download]
Zeds Dead has been on somewhat of a music-making hiatus as of late, although this past week, the duo released a new track titled Hadouken as a free download. The track is reminiscent of their older releases, with high-pitched vocals and super bassy synths. It’s a welcome addition to the Canadian duo’s roster of stellar tracks and gives hope for more new tracks in the near future. Download on their Facebook page here.
Trap/Indie & Beats | Luminous ɫ – Velvet [Free Download]
If you’re down with artists like Shlohmo, then you might appreciate this deep-hitting track named Velvet by LA producer Luminous ɫ. It really puts you into a dream state with its slow rhythm, rolling high hats, and emotive vocal samples. Download it here off his SoundCloud.
