Having FOMO over selling your Coachella tickets? I’m sure it’s still possible to score a hangover, third degree sunburns, and dirt in every crack on your body for around $350… probably way cheaper than that if you’re still headed to Indio. It’s Friday Favorites 51.
Big Room | Like Minds – Boomer (Original Mix) [Reset]
Not much is known about Like Minds, but I know one thing for sure–he’s creating big room that actually requires more than five minutes of compositional brainstorming. There are essentially four different drops in Boomer, each one bigger and better than the last. How often do you hear tracks in this genre doing that? Pick up this banger here.
Nu Disco | Quadron – Hey Love (Classixx Remix) [Vested In Culture]
Baychella is underway in San Francisco, and LA’s Classixx and I will be holding down the fort from our fortified position on Alcatraz! Nah, we’ll be at the Independent, just makin’ sure everything’s still awesome when they get back–possibly even more awesome than when they left, who knows.
Electronica | Len Faki – Kraft Und Licht (Original Mix) [Ostgut Ton]
Expansive, ruminative, and spiritually transcendent, em>Kraft Und Licht is a seven-minute journey through dark, pensive wobbles and epic, resonating synths. According to Faki, “It represents the feeling in the late afternoon hours of Sunday when everybody is feeling that special indescribable joy.” Truth be told, I’ve never heard anything quite like it.
Trance | Lee Osborne – End Of The Line (Original Mix) [Lange]
Lee Osborne is on fire lately, and a new week sees yet another uplifting banger, this time in the shape of End Of The Line, out now on Lange Recordings. Based around a frantic and dirty bass riff with an epic melody to boot, there’s a hell of a lot of energy around End Of The Line. Grab it now on Beatport.
Indie & Beats | Cosmonaut Grechko – Anytime (Original Mix) [Free Download]
While we patiently await the Chinese Democracy-like follow-up to The Avalanches’ Y2K game-changer Since I Left You, there is thankfully no short supply of next-gen producers looking to step up and fill those funky, nostalgic shoes. Russia’s Cosmonaut Grechko stands out among the pack with Anytime, a gorgeous beat culled from orchestral funk and soul samples that radiates sunshine in every direction. Scoop it up for free on SoundCloud.
Nu Disco | Lykke Li – I Follow Rivers (The Magician Remix) [Atlantic]
Belgian producer The Magician has worked his mysterious powers on countless tracks over the years, but this one is far and away my favorite. He manages to transform indie songstress Lykke Li’s enchanting, rhythmic tune into a full-on disco dance number with bursts of bright keyboard notes that blend perfectly with Lykke’s hypnotic vocal charm. Grab the track on iTunes.
Indie & Beats | XXYYXX feat. DJ TEXTMEBACK – Golden (Ellie Goulding vs Riff Raff)
The most impressive thing about Ellie Goulding is that her appeal spreads across multiple facets of the music world. Teen pop fans love to cheer for her and EDM producers love to remix her. The latest mix from Florida DJ/producer XXYYXX, Golden, only substantiates that diversity. Featuring DJ TEXTMEBACK, XXYYXX mashes up Goulding’s angelic Guns & Horses with the always delightful musings of Riff Raff. The Florida producer said he was “just having some fun” when he made the track. I would say it’s definitely on the silly side (as only a Riff Raff mashup can be). Check out the track and grab a free download on XXYYXX’ SoundCloud here.
