Whether you’re in Miami raging your face off or fighting FOMO on the homefront, help yourself to some fresh beats, great for all types of decision-altering mental states. It’s Friday Favorites 49
Trance | Alexander Popov – Quantum (Original Mix) [Armind]
Though I can’t deny the sonic similarities between this track and Armin and W&W’s D# Fat and their Love Never Came remix, Alexander Popov’s Quantum still gets me into rage mode in two seconds flat. Pick it up here.
Booty/Miami Bass | Major Lazer feat. Pharrell – Aerosol Can (Broadway Slim Remix) [Free Download]
Broadway Slim (Pickster One and Riot Earp) delivers a dangerously danceable remix of Major Lazer’s Aerosol Can in the duo’s latest free download, perfect for amping up that South Beach vibe this Ultra weekend. The Miami bass-inspired booty-shaker is bound to kill in the club and simultaneously showcases Pharrell’s impeccable verses arguably better than the original by opting for a more minimal beat. Have fun in Miami, and look out for each other.
Nu Disco/Electro Pop | 1975 – Girls (The Knocks Remix)
I was sitting here trying to decide between several different songs, and then this shining remix from The Knocks came on my speakers. Hopelessly carefree and uncontrollably energetic, the song perfectly epitomizes the ecstasy one feels when clocking out of work for the week. I’m having trouble deciding what I love more–the vocals of 1975 frontman Matthew Healy or that infectious piano line. Grab the free download here.
House | Awesome 3 feat. Lizzie Curious – Don’t Go (Hoxton Whores Remix) [Whore House|
Awesome 3’s house anthem Don’t Go was released 22 years ago, but as is the nature of house, still sounds fresh today. Re-worked by the Hoxton Whores–who easily have the most interesting name in house music–with vocals from Lizzie Curious, Don’t Go is a great example of how the genre is pretty much timeless. Piano riffs, a soulful vocal, and a funky bassline make the track the perfect summer smash for 2014, but you can’t help but think the same would go for 1994 or 2024. Don’t Go is out now on Whore House as their 100th release.
Indie & Beats | The Range – Washingtons (Original Mix) [Donky Pitch]
James “The Range” Hinton is undoubtedly one of the most exciting artists in the world of dance music today, primarily because he isn’t afraid to blend the often-disparate sounds of the mainstream with the underground. Like most of his work to date, Washingtons is uncompromisingly original, yet Hinton manages to retain a comforting feeling of familiarity by never resting on the experimental fringes for long enough to compromise the music’s accessibility. Warped samples of AZ’s spoken-word intro to the 1994 Nas classic Life’s A Bitch add a welcome human touch to the track’s sawtooth synth sounds. Washingtons comes from the new Panasonic EP, out now via Donky Pitch.
Glitch Hop/Indie & Beats | Bel Heir – Kiss The Devil (Just A Gent Remix)
Just A Gent is making some very fresh beats. Recently, the Australian gentlemen surprised me with an excellent remix of Kiss The Devil by Bel Heir. The vocals really draw you in, and the bass drop makes it even catchier. I find myself listening to this on repeat. Best of all, it’s a free download here on his Facebook page.
Dubstep | Marina & The Diamonds – Lies (Zeds Dead Remix)
This remix of the oh-so-lovely Marina & The Diamonds is without a doubt one of my favorite tracks out there. Canadian duo Zeds Dead throws some massive bass into this ballad, adding escalating beats that plummet into head-banging drops. Factor in Marina’s deep, emotive vocals, and there’s no denying this track’s dubstep superpowers.
Big Room House | Riggi & Piros – WOW (Original Mix) [Free Download]
Riggi & Piros have created a phenomenal floor-banger with WOW, seamlessly blending Avicii-like progressive house breakdowns with the big-kick stylings made popular by Martin Garrix and Sandro Silva. Wow is a fantastically produced track that shows off production craftsmanship way above the abilities of most producers. Even after listening to it on repeat, I’m still blown away by its consistent quality. You can download the entire song for free from their Facebook, making it simply too good to pass up.
Trap | Local Natives – Ceilings (Kasbo Remix)
Indie-pop dreamers Local Natives released their sophomore album Hummingbird in 2013, and it was full of charming melodies and sentimental ballads. Rising Swedish producer Kasbo has remixed dreamy album standout Ceilings into an emotional blend of euphonious trap. Replacing Local Natives’ dulcet tones of poignant, acoustic strumming with fervid synth and hard-line bass, Kasbo’s Ceilings remix is one of the most sonically pleasing trap tracks that I’ve heard in a while.
Trap | Ellie Goulding – Hanging On (I SEE MONSTAS Remix)
The movie Divergent was released last Friday and boasts one of the most impressive EMD-based soundtracks I have ever seen. One of the most notable tracks is I SEE MONSTAS’ trap remix of Ellie Goulding’s Holding On. I SEE MONSTAS have sped up the track a bit and added in some trap synths and horns to turn the energy up a notch. Pick it up here with the rest of the album.
