Before you go buying up pink things with your hard-earned green or anger-drinking with the rest of the singles, mull over any poor decisions you might make tonight with Friday Favorites 43, because whether its gifts or company, something isn’t always better than nothing.
Tech House | Monsieur Monsieur – Lucid (Jimmy Edgar Remix) [Bromance]
Bromance’s first release of 2014 comes in the form of Lucid by Monsieur Monsieur. Yesterday FactMag premiered the dark and slinky Jimmy Edgar remix, and I can’t get enough of those subtle tribal nuances with a splash of vogue house thrown in for good measure. The Lucid package drops Monday.
Deep House | WhiteNoize & Nima G – Haters Get Mad (Original Mix) [Nu Jax]
San Francisco groove exporters WhiteNoize and Nu Jax Music’s Nima G bring the local party deep into the basement with their funky new collab. Haters Get Mad comes with a vocal sample from Soulja Boy’s Crank That and a satisfying bassline that the neighbors are going to absolutely love. Pick it up here.
Deep House | Hot Since 82 & Habischman – Leave Me Alone (Original Mix) [Moda Black]
I may have only been a fringe fan of deep house a few months ago, but it’s producers like Hot Since 82 that have changed all that. I managed to catch him perform twice in a six-day period, and if there is one song that stood out in my mind, it was his collaboration with Habischman, Leave Me Alone. Sexy, evocative, and with a hint of ’80s nostalgia, this is one track I won’t leave alone.
Tech House | Dusky – 9T8 (Benny Ill London Underground Mix) [School]
Currently a firm favorite among deep house fans, Dusky’s latest release 9T8 also has a slightly techier b-side. The remix from Benny Ill is a slightly more energetic version of the original, but manages to maintain that insanely deep and dark feeling to it, hence the rather appropriate “London Underground” tag. Get it now on Beatport.
Nu Disco/Pop/Dance | Jim James – Know Til Now (SEE TAI Remix) [Free Download]
You might not have known ’til now, but in Kentucky, My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James is a household name. Louisville DJ/producer Jamey See Tai has wisely hitched a ride on James’s star this week with his shimmering remix of Know Til Now from JJ’s 2013 solo record Regions of Light and Sound of God, which serves as an excellent sequel to See Tai’s recent take on Goldroom’s Embrace. Download for free on SoundCloud.
G-House/Deep House | Flexb – Baby I’m Boss (Original Mix) [CUFF]
G-House is officially my new favorite genre. Something about the mix of hip hop and deeper house vibes has struck a chord with me, and I can’t stop listening. I came across this track by Flexb while listening to an Amine Edge & Dance mix from this year’s Holy Ship and absolutely had to find it. Grab the track on Beatport here.
Trap/Downtempo | Janet Jackson – Someone To Call My Lover (Giraffage Remix) [FREE DOWNLOAD]
Nothing says feel-good Friday like some throwback Janet Jackson, and when you add the super smooth beats of Giraffage to the mix, the result is pure musical bliss. The San Francisco-based producer transforms the track into an ultra chill, downtempo tune infused with slowed vocals, and he adds plenty of claps and rolling beats to give the remix a trap feel. Pick it up for free here.
Trap | Above & Beyond – Love Is Not Enough (Slander Trap Edit)
I love many genres of music. Really, I’m not partial to any one in particular. But Above & Beyond acoustic and trap were not two things I thought I would see together. If I had, I would have imagined it to sound just like this. Slander describes it as “heaven trap,” and I would have to agree. Download the remix for free here.
Breaks | Graphics – Steam and Paradise (Original Mix) [FREE DOWNLOAD]
UK producer Graphics is launching a new label for young, rising artists called PTC. To celebrate, he chopped up a bunch of breaks and mesmerizing chants and mixed them into a dark, industrial heater worth snappin’ your neck to. You can download Steam and Paradise over at XLR8R.
Deep House | Z – Moves Like Ms. Jackson [FREE DOWNLOAD]
A mysterious new producer that goes by the name of Z has perfectly mashed up Outkast classics The Way you Move, Ms. Jackson, and The Whole World, and it’s an incredible fusion of all three tracks. Pick it up for free here.
Deep House | Bob Moses – All I Want (Original Mix) [Scissor & Thread]
All I Want is for everyone have a very special Valentine’s Day <3
