Who’s ready to spend 50 percent more days not working this weekend!? We know we are. Get it started with Friday Favorites 39.
House | Rhemi & Lynn Lockamy – Warning (6 Hubert Street Re-Production) [Rhemi]
Anyone who was at the Innervisions party at Blue Venado during The BPM Festival last week is probably telling you that it was the best party they’ve ever been to in their life, and they would be right. Dixon, Âme, an isolated beach with the sun rising over the ocean, and an impromptu rainbow made for a spectacle rarely seen in your typical “Friday night out.” The first 20 minutes or so of Dixon’s set was probably the best chunk of tunes I heard at BPM, and this included today’s Friday Favorite–the dark and sassy Warning by Rhemi & Lynn Lockamy. The track recently received a set of “re-productions” from New York DJ Quentin Harris, including the “6 Hubert Street” version on offer here. I certainly didn’t make it to every showcase at BPM, but this track set the crowd off harder than anything I caught with my own eyes. Pick it up here.
Electro House | Case & Point – Savage (Original Mix) [Monstercat]
Savage, the latest from Boston-based Case & Point, rides an ear-ripping bassline into a sophisticated drop and main section that throws listeners off with a slight fake-out–what at first feels like another hollowed-out big room drop smashes through a thick pane of synth stabs on its way down, resulting in a sharp-sided electro house heater of heavy caliber. Pick up your copy here.
Electro | Tony Romera – Hey Bean (Original Mix)
In my mind, Tony Romera is like the filthy French doppelgänger of Nicky Romero. His most recent release, Hey Bey, is a stomper’s paradise–I’m looking at you Zeke. Featuring hyped-up vocals, chopped synths, and an absolutely explosive climax, this is peak-time electro with a capital “P.” Hell, even Diplo can’t stop dancing! Pick it up on Beatport here.
Deep House | Patrick Topping – Get Beasty (Original Mix) [Hot Creations]
Fast-rising star and Hot Creations newbie Patrick Topping is back with another “beast” of a release after the rapid success of his debut EP, Walk On, and the even greater success of follow-up EP Any Amounts. Topping likes to Get Beasty with melodic keys and trippy FX, providing house music that dominates the dancefloor. Pick up the Get Beasty EP, out Feb. 3 on Hot Creations.
Deep House | Eddie Krystal – Afterglow (Original Mix) [MUM]
As a relative newcomer to house music, I had no idea MUM, short for Manchester Underground Music even existed, despite being based just up the road. If this is what they’re capable of though, they have a new fan. Afterglow comes from NY-based producer Eddie Krystal and is a deep and techy house track with a fantastic atmosphere. Pick up the full three-track EP here.
House | Burial – Untrue (patten Re-Edit)
Enigmatic Warp Records affiliate patten is gearing up to release his next full-length, ESTOILE NAIANT, next month, and earlier this week he completely revamped his website in preparation. Click around long enough, and you’ll eventually stumble upon a directory of unidentified “re-edits,” chief among which is this bootleg of Burial’s Untrue from the 2007 LP of the same name. Patten strips away Burial’s characteristic trashcan percussion in favor of a minimal, blown-out stomp, and occasionally allows the original tune’s ghastly vocal snippets to emerge through the thick synth fog. Trap | LION KNGS – Zamunda (Original Mix)
Any track that starts off with dangerous-sounding tribal percussion is usually a sign that something interesting is about to go down. That’s the case on this one. Zamunda by duo LION KNGS sounds like it was plucked straight from a seance in the African bush, until the drop, which gets downright waaavy. This one is available for free.
Deep House/G House | Frank Ocean – Lost (Amine Edge & Dance Remix) [SLEAZY G]
I had the great fortune of attending Holy Ship!!! last weekend, and I can say with confidence it was one of the best electronic music events I have ever been to. One of the many reasons is that I got to see Amine Edge & Dance for the first time during a 4 a.m. set on the second night. Their sound, known to many as G-House (Gangsta House), was the perfect soundtrack to a late-night dance session and had me craving more. One of my favorites was their remix of Frank Ocean’s Lost, which you can grab on Beatport here.
Indie & Beats | BANKS – Warm Water (Snakehips Remix) [FREE DOWNLOAD]
British duo Snakehips takes on the sultry sound of R&B phenom and fellow Londoner BANKS in this sexy track. They up the tempo and add just the right amount of keyboard notes, transforming the former slow jam into a perfectly smooth groove that’s hard to resist. Luckily, you won’t have to–it’s a free download.
