Mmmm… no holiday season is complete without lewd behavior and scarring memories. Add a little egg nog to the liquor you’ve normally got stashed under your desk, and cozy up with some new music. It’s Friday Favorites 35.
Deep/Tech House | Matt Fear – That Girl (Kreature Remix) [Mexa]
First heard this track in the BPM 2013 aftermovie and immediately loved its foreboding vibes. Can’t wait to head to my first BPM in January!
Indie & Beats | Pretty Lights – My Only Hope (Blood Diamonds Remix) [Pretty Lights]
Blood Diamonds is fast becoming one of my favorite producers of any genre, let alone the amorphous realm of music that comprises his compositions. His remix of My Only Hope is extremely emotive, as he brings the tortured vocals front and center amid a gorgeous cascade of bells, chimes, clicks, and more from the increasing array of sounds Blood Diamonds is regularly packing his productions with. Pick it up for free, along with the rest of the A Color Map Of The Sun Remixes release, here.
Indie & Beats | Ryan Hemsworth – Colour & Movement (Party Time Remix)
Party Time’s incredible remix of Ryan Hemsworth’s 2012 single Colour & Movement has me wishing I owned the Neuralyzer from Men In Black so I could wipe away my memory and listen to it for the first time again. This track is cooler than the other side of the pillow, and if you don’t believe me, just check out the switch-up that occurs at the halfway point–definitely a “holy sh*t” moment. Download it for free right here.
Nu Disco | Tensnake feat. Nile Rodgers & Fiora – Love Sublime (Original Mix) [Astralwerks]
Tensnake has come a long way since his 2010 house hit Coma Cat, which smashed dancefloors and helped make a name for the young German producer. He’s getting ready for the March 2014 release of his debut artist album Glow, but not before sharing the album’s next single Love Sublime, a delicious slice of precise modern disco featuring acclaimed producer Nile Rodgers who recently collaborated with Daft Punk, and vocals by the lovely Fiora. Preorder a signed copy of Tensake’s Glow here.
Trance | Solarstone – Solarcoaster (Remastered Original Mix) [Captivating Sounds]
A classic from Solarstone originally released way back in 2002, I only found out this week that Solarcoaster actually samples the theme from British cult film Withnail & I. The two sound nothing alike aside from the melody, but the Solarstone track is also regarded as a true classic . This package features new remixes from Markus Schulz and Protoculture, but it’s the remastered original which is worth buying, as one of those tracks that sounds just as fresh today as it did when it was released over 10 years ago.
Hip Hop/Chill Trap | Clams Casino – Freeze (Instrumental Mix) [Free Download]
If nothing else, A$AP Rocky has immaculate taste in beats. Hater alert: producer Clams Casino arguably outshines many of the A$AP Mob rappers on their collaborative tracks. His beats contain so much understated beauty that they deserve to be experienced as fully realized pieces of music in their own right. Freeze originally surfaced on the crew’s 2012 mixtape Lords Never Worry, but now you can really sink your teeth into this chilly downtempo delight by downloading Clams Casino’s third and final Instrumental Mixtape for free on Sendspace.
Deep House | Herr Vogel feat. Fabio – Wanna Play (Original Mix) [Free Download]
If the cold months are upon you, Herr Vogel’s Wanna Play is sure to warm you up a bit. The deep bouncy bass and angelic vocals give off a classy sort of warmth that is sure to have you grooving along. This is the first track I had heard from the Switzerland-based producer and have since spent a decent amount of time browsing his SoundCloud page. Grab a copy of the track as a free download on Herr Vogel’s SoundCloud.
Deep House | Maribou State| Scarlett Groove (Club Edit) [Free Download]
As a Christmas gift to fans, UK’s Maribou State has released a club edit of their beloved track Scarlett Groove. Undeniably darker than the gently grooving original, the edit features some pretty sinister horn sounds and a heaping dose of echoing vocals. The original, which released last year on Southern Fried Records, felt like a day on the beach compared to the late-night club vibes of this edit. Download it for free here.
