Electro House | 4Tezian – Scorpion (Original Mix) [Ones To Watch]
Laidback Luke’s new Ones To Watch label continues to introduce amazing talent to the world, first in the form of D.O.D. and now the virtually unknown 4Tezian from Amsterdam. Scorpion is like Boys Noize with the “big room” turned up to 9000; the staccato lead synth is quite force to be reckoned with. Show this guy some love on his Facebook–he earned it with this one. Look out for more from the young Dutchman, including a collaboration with up-and-coming Wall Recordings signees Fight Clvb. Scorpion is available on Beatport.
House | Eptic – Danger (Habstrakt VIP) [Never Say Die]
The continued success and evolution of modern dubstep depends on forward-thinking strongholds like Never Say Die Recordings and their artists, like Eptic, who fight for their flag in the trenches with the kind of boom he brings to bear on the Doom EP. Enjoy this swagger-soaked VIP from Montpellierain label-mate Habstrakt, and get seriosully heavy with the rest of the bass-laden beatdown that is the Doom EP here, out now on NSD.
Minimal Tech | Von Don – Record Selectas (Original Mix) [Bosphorus Underground]
In my mind, there is nothing better than a dark and dirty minimal tech set. I managed to catch Daniel Portman’s incredible show last weekend in Toronto and, suffice to say, I was still jonesing for more. Von Don, the brainchild of friends Alex Noble & Luigi III, wasn’t a duo I’d ever heard of before, but you can bet that I won’t forget the name after listening to this track. Record Selectas
, released on Bosphorus Underground, is exactly what you need to kickstart your weekend. Unlike some of the convoluted tracks you find in other genres, one of the great things about minimal is that there is space for each specific sound to breath. There is something so underground about it, you can’t help but love it. It also helps that the track is an total banger. Pick it up on Beatport now.
Electro House | Sub Focus – Could This Be Real (Synchronice Remix)
I recently came across this remix of a Sub Focus track by Synchronice and instantly fell in love. The mix of pianos and electro sounds blend together extremely well with the vocals and had me dancing around immediately. Grab a free download of the track here.
Deep House | Kate Simko feat. Jem Cooke – Your Love [No.19]
Chicago house heroine Kate Simko reminds the world just how outstanding a producer she really is with this summer’s deep house hit Your Love, which i’m still playing on repeat well into winter. Jem Cooke’s voice soars over a perfect balance of bassline and summery instrumentals. Purchase Your Love remix package here, or treat yourself to the 12″ vinyl.
Trap | Grizzly Bear – Will Calls (Diplo Remix) [Free Download]
It’s always a bittersweet moment when you hear a non-electronic band you love get a remix. Especially a trap remix. Results are often lackluster, but you’re probably in good hands if the remixer in question is Diplo. Well done sir. Thanks for tastefully retouching Grizzly Bear’s Will Calls. You can download it for free here.
Trance | James Dymond – Solidus [Soundpiercing]
What more could you want than a massive piece of uplifting trance from up-and-coming legend James Dymond? How about a massive film score-style build? It’s straight from the sort of film I’m not really a fan of, “fantasy” I suppose I’d call it, though due to my ignorance of the genre, I’m probably wrong. Regardless of my taste in films, it shows that Dymond’s talents extend far beyond a banging bassline and a big trance riff, though Solidus features both. This track proves the guy can really write music, though as I’m a fan of a darkened club rather than a darkened cinema, I’m hoping Hollywood doesn’t lure him away just yet.
Techno/Tech House | Daniel Avery – All I Need (Original Mix) [Phantasy Sound]
Veteran Fabric party-starter Daniel Avery released his debut full length Drone Logic last month via Erol Alkan’s Phantasy Sound imprint, and it’s been in constant rotation for me ever since. All I Need, the lead single and opening track, is all you should need to be convinced that this fella is one of the brightest minds in techno today. All I Need is accompanied by a stark, corporeal video that’s as stimulating as it is grotesque. Pick up Drone Logic now through the Phantasy Shop.
