Hey adventurous eater! Step right up and taste the newest fad in festival food, the low-cal, high-groove Friday Favorites, brought to you by the LT3 team and their greasy, ruined iDevices. In retrospect, this might not’ve been the best idea. Enjoy!
Electro House | Moby & The Loops Of Fury – Para (Original Mix) [Lotus]
The Loops Of Fury have long been considered by myself to be one of the most underrated acts in all of electro, with a frenetic, bouncing sound unrivaled by any. Looks like superstar Moby recognized this and decided to release a single with the guys called Para, and it’s so energetic, it’s almost seizure-inducing. Be sure to check out the entire EP on Beatport, which features fantastic remixes by Mumbai Science, Sound Of Stereo, and Baskerville.
Electro House | Dirty Rush & Gregor Es – Turn Up The Bass (D.O.D Remix) [Vicious]
Before you object, “Hey… it’s MY bass. Don’t tell ME when to turn it up,” give D.O.D and his vicious drop a chance to prove why, despite his relative newcomer status, he has the right, nay, the obligation, to demand your bass be turned up. Out now on Vicious Records.
Deep House | Hot Since 82 – Let It Ride [Noir]
This week, I resurrected one of my all-time favorite tracks from one of my all time favorite producers, Hot Since 82. Ride the sultry, sonorous sound waves of Let It Ride to kick off your weekend just right.
Indie Beats | Lone – Airglow Fires (Original Mix) [Boomkat]
It’s jazzy, it’s fun, it’s Lone. Lone’s adept sense of cadence and rhythm is on display with his new tune Airglow Fires on the Boomkat imprint. A swung beat accompanied by a playful chord progression is the perfect remedy for the blues. Pay particular attention to the DJ Shadow-styled outro–absolutely brilliant. In other words, this is next-level neck funk. Pick up the entire EP here.
Deep House | Marvin Gaye – Grapevine (HOLTOUG Edit)
No matter how difficult this past week was for you, Marvin Gaye wants to remind you that it’s not nearly as bad as what he heard through the Grapevine. This groovy edit by HOLTOUG injects a contemporary deep house vibe into one of the most recognizable songs, and voices, music has ever had the pleasure of housing. Pick up this edit for free over on HOLTOUG’s SoundCloud, and enjoy your Friday with one of the most prized singers and songwriters in our country’s history.
House | New York Transit Authority – Off The Traxx (Original Mix)
New York Transit Authority, the 808-based side project of Bristol’s Mensah, has been painstakingly quiet for the past year or so. What a pleasure it was to see this message on his Facebook last night: “Been in hibernation but release info for my SWARM EP will be coming next week…..!!!” Groove down to this funky 808 jam while looking forward to this mystery EP.
House | AC Slater & Anna Lunoe – All Night
I’m a huge fan of the original hit track of J. Cole & Miguel, Power Trip. This cover gives the original track a bouncy, bubbly uplift. I hope you enjoy it all night long.
Nu Disco | Le Youth – C O O L [Ultra Records]
If summer jams are what you’re looking for, Le Youth is someone that you should become well acquainted with. I have had C O O L on repeat for almost the entire summer, and there’s currently on end in sight.
Progressive House | deadmau5 – Strobe (Alvino Remix)
With this year’s Veld Music Festival right around the corner, I’ve got a certain mouse-headed producer on my mind. Strobe may have been remixed a million times by now, but let’s face it, the original is on the short-list of top EDM tracks of the decade. Italian producer Alvino doesn’t go too crazy with his remix, but he does just enough to do the original justice. “Crunchy” is the best word to describe it. At around the three-minute mark, the beat drops, and the party gets started. You can grab it for free here.
