Moombahton/Jungle Terror | Etnik feat. Mykki Blanco – Unclassified (Wiwek Remix) [OWSLA]
I love Wiwek, Etnik, and gender-bending-rapper-turned-investigative-journalist Mykki Blanco, so it was pretty much like Christmas when a Wiwek remix of Etnik and Mykki’s Unclassified showed up on Etnik’s SoundCloud yesterday. Mykki’s absolutely relentless rapping is the perfect topline for Wiwek’s aggressive tribal rhythms–I could see some serious krumping happening with this song as the soundtrack. Pick up the Unclassified remix package when it drops April 9 on OWSLA with remixes from Rusko, Wax Motif, and more.
House | Major Lazer & DJ Snake feat. MØ – Lean On (WHOOSH Remix) [Free Download]
Skip, mute, or otherwise allow 1:10 to elapse before letting the tired vocals played obnoxiously fast deter you from WHOOSH’s outstanding groove that carries the remainder of his Lean On remix. With Major Lazer and DJ Snake’s island pop jam as the canvas, this approaches tropical house but with proper motivation–a quality I’m left looking for too often in recent products of the trending sound. By now, his melody is as real to me as the original–a sign of a well thought-out reinterpretation. Pick it up for free here.
Future Bass | Alison Wonderland – U Don’t Know (Just A Gent Remix)
From Lido to Ganz to THUGLI, the future bass/trap world simply cannot get enough of Alison Wonderland’s irresistible vocals, and to be honest, neither can we. The newest producer to step up to the plate is fellow Australian Just A Gent, who blows the roof off with his high energy, melody-driven “lovetrap” cut. No release date yet for this official remix, other then than it’s “coming out shortly!”
Techno | Macromism – Who Wants It (Original Mix) [100% Pure]
Smooth and sexy deep techno vibes and artwork that features a bizarre purple version of Bender–what more could one ask for on a Friday afternoon? Who Wants It? is the work of Italian producers Macromism and is out now on 100% Pure.
R&B | Digital Farm Animals feat. Yasmin – Didn’t Know
After being featured on Gorgon City’s Real, Huxley’s Say My Name, and Kele’s First Impressions, London-based singer Yasmin has established herself as a highly valuable asset in the house scene. Most recently, she’s entered the R&B realm by lending her soulful vocals to Digital Farm Animals’ s slow jam, Didn’t Know. With smooth production that gracefully walks the line between classic R&B and contemporary future bass, this tune explores the all-too-common issue of establishing an exclusive relationship status while retaining your independence. There is no purchase link for this one, but follow Digital Farm Animals here and Yasmin here.
Trip Hop | Joshua – Perfect (Original Production)
Hijacking David Lynch’s name to use as his SoundCloud title for a while, the producer, who is simply going by Joshua now, is something of a mystery to the scene. His productions span a wide range of influences and Perfect is no different with its trip hop-inspired backbeat and shimmering guitar samples that will have you thinking of classic Massive Attack with a modern twist. Head to Joshua’s SoundCloud to hear more of his original productions.
Nu Disco | Penguin Prison – Never Gets Old (Blende Remix) [Downtown]
Penguin Prison‘s Never Gets Old Remix EP dropped this week, and the tracklist includes this incredibly smooth spin from Swedish producer Blende. Known for his clean, punchy basslines and polished synths, Blende lends his signature sound to Penguin Prison’s tune and the result is a fiery, disco-infused effort that shows off his flawless production skills. Grab the track and the rest of the EP on iTunes here.
R&B | Jack Garratt – Worry (Original Mix) [Island]
Getting the nod from BBC Radio’s Zane Lowe as one of the Future 15 of 2015, Jack Garratt is a burgeoning artist from the UK that has absolutely exploded over the last year. His luring falsetto vocals pitched against harsh production timbres leads to a uniquely satisfying experience, as evidenced by the attention he’s been receiving from industry heavyweights such as Rick Rubin. His track Worry is a minimal masterpiece with thoughtful vocals and 80s-era funk elements–think The Gap Band meets Ed Sheeran. Make sure to pick up Worry and the rest of the Remnants EP on Island Records right here.
Baltimore Club/Big Room | Enur feat. Natasja – Calabria (Ackeejuice Rockers Remix) [Free Download]
It’s been eight years since Enur’s crossover pop smash with the horn-driven house single Calabria. That being said, the track itself has a timeless appeal. Thus, when one-time Kanye West collaborators Ackeejuice Rockers work their riddim-loving magic on the single, the handclaps, horns, and bassline get warped into a raucous 130 BPM Baltimore club affair. Maximal in its production style, it’s meant to be the kind of track that brings a big room to its feet or a smaller club to its knees. This is a powerhouse production with equal amounts of festival, carnival, and underground vibes that demands to be heard. Grab the free download here.
