We’re only just into the second month of the year, but for anyone who’s really into dance music, there’s only one thing on their mind: the annual pilgrimage to that small sacred island in the Mediterranean. Ibiza’s clubbing season may be several months away yet, but over the past couple of weeks, there’s plenty to suggest that this summer will be better than ever.
First up are the opening parties, with Sankeys due to open with a double-header on May 21 and 22. Space opens on May 25 with one of the first announced residencies of the summer coming from Disclosure, who will take over We Love Sundays on June 22, July 20, Aug. 17, and Sept. 14 as part of their Wild Life shows, with Carl Craig, Dusky, and Eats Everything already confirmed. Tickets are already on sale, and at £20, you’re probably looking at half price, so they’re worth snapping up if you’ll be on the island.
Also recently announced is the return of Ibiza veterans Hed Kandi to the gorgeous surroundings of pyramid-shaped venue Es Paradis on June 7 and the return of long-term trance night Cream to their usual venue Amnesia on June 12. Possibly most massive announcement as this article goes to press is the return of the legendary Gatecrasher brand, with a new home in the refurbished San Antonio superclub, Eden–with more details due soon. Of course, the rumour mills are also in full flow, with some of our friends on Twitter already reporting possible residencies from a well-known cake-thrower at one of the island’s oldest clubs and the world’s current #1 appearing at one of the newest. The coming weeks and months will reveal all, but Ibiza 2014 is already looking to be better than ever.
