One of my all time favorite dubstep artists, Breakage, has finally released some new material. Waaay back on my first post ever, I covered the dub bad boy’s album Foundation and his remix of the hit electro track, Riverside. This time around, he’s put out a sexy new single, Fighting Fire. The first time I heard this track, I was absolutely blown away. It sounds like a trance track with elements of dnb/breakbeat. Not only that, but the remixes are awesome in their own right.
The singer, Jess Mills (on left), sounds fantastic. The tweaks and effects Breakage added on to her singing transforms her voice, adding sex appeal while keep it sophisticated and mysterious. Keyboard chords, lines of crawling synth, and a fiery cocktail of snares and kicks lead to an oasis in a desert of enticement. The remixes are also great in their own right. Loadstar’s remix brings it closer to the realm of drum’n’bass, something that hardcore dnb fans will appreciate. The tone of the remix is the same, but it’s a great alternative if you prefer something more traditional. For house fans, check out Foamo’s remix. He’s stripped down the drum lines, switched them for a house beat, and added in dream-like buildups that lead into dark synth.
As an added bonus, check out the official music video at the bottom of the page. I can’t wait to see him at Coachella. Be sure to check out our event review of the festival next month. Until then, kick back, turn up the bass, and let Breakage take you on a journey. <3
