Today’s deep house scene wouldn’t be complete without its most beloved label, Crosstown Rebels. Head honcho Damian Lazarus has got quite a knack for picking up the grooviest of house jams, ripe for the dance floor and sexy as hell. But it’s the dark and weird side of his sets that’s made him such a sought-after DJ, and now with offshoot label Rebellion, Damian seems to sneak further into that lovable left field.
For release number twelve, Rebellion has tapped London-based Francesca Lombardo for the hauntingly beautiful Eyes Of Nature EP. The EP begins with Eyes, the soundtrack to some sort of cult gathering or lost jungle dance floor. Lombardo’s own fading vocals sink deep into twisted synths as bells and shakers rise and fall, the perfect backing to a 6AM sway. She then hands the vocal reins to Julien Raichi on Wander And Wonder and goes to work on a mesmerizing bassline. Her musical training really shines through on this one as all elements make total sonic sense, driving into a welcome darkness.
