The NYC <3 crew attends a fair amount of minimal/tech-house parties. Some of them, like Flawless’ parties, are better than the competition. Matthias Tanzmann graced the decks at their most recent throw-down, the 7th Anniversary Party, and proceeded to drop sweet techno goodness at the glorious Rivington Hotel. It was at this special occasion that I heard The Expert, originally by Yello and remixed by Booka Shade. I loved it so much that I went right up to Matthias then and there to ask what it was called. Though it might start off a little slow, the steady progression of the track leads nicely through drop after drop, culminating in the feel-good groove at 6:20 that continues through ’til the very end.
For those of you who dont know them, Berlin-based Booka Shade (Walter Merziger and Arno Kammermeier) have been creating quite a storm over the past few years. Their single Charlotte was one of the top three selling underground tracks on Beatport in 2008, leading to Booka Shade being voted Best Tech House Act of 2008. Pretty impressive. They are also known to use live instrumentation in their sets, which is not something you see every day (watch video below). Speaking of which, anyone out there hear/see these guys live? I’d love to hear about it.
So anyway, sit back and enjoy the track. It needs an edit, sure, but I’m sure you’ll get why I’m posting this when it’s all said and done. Enjoy.
