Excision might just be the most responsible artist for the rapid popularization of hard dubstep. Back in 2009 when the term dubstep was still unfamiliar and just beginning to take hold in the USA, his track with Datsik, Swagga, grew into a ubiquitous, genre-defining hit that proceeded to blow out speakers and reel in a whole new generation of EDM fans.
So what’s Excision up to these days? Well, he just finished headlining IDentity Festival across the country and now he’s taken some time to cast the spotlight on his friends with a fresh set of remixes of his debut album, X-Rated. Perhaps my favorite remix is the Lucky Date remix of Ohhh Nooo, which stands as an impressive transformation from electro house to dubstep. I actually was surprised to see Loadstar featured in this comp as his style of dnb is usually very chill. However, that didn’t stop him from injecting raw power to the vocal tune Sleepless. Another surprise was to see the seriously talented Dirtyphonics, who banged out an unstoppable, 110bpm version of Deviance. There are more excellent remixes to check, so be sure to get them today off Beatport or iTunes.
