Thanksgiving wasn’t the only reason to celebrate this past Thursday–it also happened to be the birthday of San Diego’s ESTA., who capitalized on his personal double holiday by self-releasing his latest full-length, Paradise.
ESTA. got his start making hip hop tracks, but recent releases have found the young beatsmith diversifying his sonic palette with elements of garage, trap, and next-generation R&B. Many of the beats found on Paradise kick like trap tunes, but the genre’s default aggression is swapped out for a smooth, sexy ambiance, best exemplified by the gorgeous title track. Other tunes, such as Chandelier, are just begging for an accomplished emcee to spit a few verses on top, but ESTA.’s subtle production style rewards attentive ears all on its own.
2013 could go down in the history books as trap music’s golden era, but if you’re wondering what comes next, ESTA.’s latest offering may very well help lead the way forward. Paradise is available to download now on Bandcamp.
