Certainly one of the filthiest wrecking crews out there, Chasing Shadows is notoriously adept at combining chill reggae with glass-shattering basslines. Made up of Joe Erskine and Luca Gulotta, the UK duo is currently tearing it up worldwide, with shows coming up in their home country and New Zealand.
Their latest riot starter Red is a remix of Bristol’s leading reggae band Laid Blak. Beginning with some gentle acoustics and the tortured vocals of Joe Peng, this track truly takes a hard turn at 1:22 with a wall of speaker-blowing bass. It was even considered dirty enough to make it into Excision‘s Shambala 2010 mix.
Another one of Chasing Shadows’ best takes on Jamaican sounds is their remix of Damian Marley’s It Was Written. Exceptionally dark and grimy, this remix adds so much more gravity to the vocals that almost seem to struggle against the beats in the track.
