Eelke Kleijn is a rare talent. With work stretching across movie trailer scores, live shows, and incredibly well-formed production, he crosses the boundary from electronic producer into a true modern-day composer. With two artist albums, an array of originals tracks and first class remixes, what he has achieved thus far would be any DJ’s reverie. A BBC Radio 1 Next Hype act, remixer extraordinaire, and Hollywood soundtracker for films such as Parker, Wrath Of The Titans, and Rush, his career is in a constant accelerating push to the top. We’re honored to have Eelke curate this week’s edition of Dive Into The Deep, where he shares some of his favorite tracks to spin right now, as well as a premiere of a brand new original, out 12/15 on Toolroom Trax.
PREMIERE: Eelke Kleijn – Space Disco [Toolroom Trax]
I wrote this track in a couple of days after I came back from my USA tour. I thought of the bassline first and then the chords and just really liked the way they worked together–gave me a sort of disco flashback. It’s been a really big hitter in all my live sets recently!
OUT ON 12/15
Ane Brun – To Let Myself Go (Andre Hommen Remix) [Objektivity]
There’s only one way to describe this track: amazing! The vocals are incredible and I love how the electro-tinged synth builds up through the track and goes off near the end. One of the best releases for me this year; it really works every single time I play it.
Roger Martinez – Garajonay [Click]
Roger’s been a long-time favourite producer of mine–he’s insane in crafting beats. I love how this track is a little bit deeper than his previous work, but still has got that massive funkin’ rhythm, layered with some amazing synth and vocal work! Been playing this a lot and gets a great reaction every time.
Olivier Weiter – Takkie (Einmusik Remix) [Einmusika]
The original by Olivier Weiter is a great track, but I love hypnotic additions by Einmusik here. This is one of those tracks that you play in an intimate club and everyone just gets it. The bassline is huge, and those delayed vocals and effects really finish it for me. Love it!
Henry Saiz – Haunted Girl Canyon (Eelke Kleijn Remix) [Suara]
When I was asked to remix this track by Henry I was pretty psyched! I really like the original; it reminds me of the good times of 1999, and has one of those instantly recognisable melodies. I tried to save that, but also to inject a bit of techno dancefloor funk. The result is a crossover record that explodes every time I play it.
MIX OF THE WEEK: Eelke Kleijn – Outside The Box Episode 100 @ ADE
During Amsterdam Dance Event 2014 I mixed my Outside The Box radio show live from the brand new Beatport Studio in Amsterdam, due to the fact it was episode #100. The mix consists only of Eelke Kleijn records and also includes some new unreleased gems.
