A DJ since the age of 12, as well as a producer and engineer, Tom Flynn has released music on some of world’s
finest labels, including Hot Creations, Dirtybird, and Ministry Of Sound. Tom’s music constantly
appears in the sets of DJs such as Guy Gerber, Jamie Jones, Carl Cox,
Dennis Ferrer, Richie Hawtin, and Yousef, and he has been awarded both “best breakthrough
producer” and “essential new tune” accolades by Pete Tong. He has also played at such highly esteemed clubs as Sankeys Ibiza, Verboten New York, Smart Bar in
(Chicago), and Circus in Liverpool and London, as well as hosting a weekly radio show that gathers thousands of global listeners. To commemorate the launch of his US tour (details at bottom of article), Tom dives in deep for us to pick some of his essential tracks from the last few years, all of which have made appearances in his sets.
Tom Flynn – Do You Like Bass (Original Mix) [Leena]
I wrote this in about 30 minutes just messing around after a long studio session. I gave it to a few people who loved it, but I wasn’t so sure about it. It nearly never came out, then I gave it to Anja Schneider for Leena and it just exploded with everyone from Carl Cox to Loco Dice playing it.
Traffic Signs – The Big Fake (Original Mix) [Poker Flat]
Been playing this for so long, absolutely brilliant track. It’s Steve Bug, so what do you expect? I’ve been a big fan of Steve Bug since I first heard his stuff in the late ’90s.
Guy Gerber & P. Diddy – My Heart (Original Mix) [Rumors]
Simply stunning. I dream of this record. The melody at the end is so dreamy. No one does this sound as well as Guy. And I could listen to Diddy saying “it’s off the hook” all day. Guy’s probably one of the best producers in the last 20 years in dance music.
Dave Clarke – The Compass (Original Mix) [Ministry Of Sound]
I love this record–play it fast or play it slow, it works every time. It’s probably one of his more funky numbers and has some amazing samples in it.
Lauer – Trainmann
This one gives me chills; something resonates with me about it. Such a great end-of-set record. Beautiful strings too. I love the production on this track; the mix always cuts through really well.
MIX OF THE WEEK: Hot Creations – Galactic Radio Transmission 008: Mixed by Tom Flynn
Jamie asked me to mix their galactic radio show, so I duly obliged. Mixed on vinyl after a hazy night in the studio! Jamie said he has been playing it on repeat ever since I sent it to him.
Tom is currently on his US tour–see dates below. In celebration, he has released Yes Yes Y’all as a free download. Get it here.
