Good morning, groovers! This week’s edition of Disco Diaries features a healthy dose of the best in nu disco, funk, pop, and indie dance with SAFIA, Bag Raiders, CHVRCHES, & more.
SAFIA – Embracing Me
Although Embracing Me doesn’t technically fall into the typical Disco Diaries realm, it is more than worthy of an exception. Australian three-piece band SAFIA was my personal choice for LessThan3’s Top Artists To Watch in 2015, and songs like this one continue to reaffirm my prediction. Cop the single here.
Bag Raiders – Waterfalls [Modular]
After surprising fans with the first single from their upcoming EP, Aussie duo Bag Raiders have followed up Vapour Trails with the ultra groovy Waterfalls. Both records are clear reminders of why we fell in love with Chris Stracey and Jack Glass five years ago when they changed the game with the immortal Shooting Stars. iTunes purchase available here.
L’Étranger – Single [Thomorrow]
Citing Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys and Kevin Shields of My Bloody Valentine as his influences, it makes complete sense why Ben Thomas, the soulful voice behind L’Étranger, possesses the very particular style that he does. Single is due Aug. 28 via L’Etranger’s budding record label, Thomorrow–keep up to date with the his latest affairs here here.
CHVRCHES – Leave A Trace [Virgin]
Electronic pop trio CHVRCHES made a huge splash last week with the first single from their forthcoming sophomore album, Every Open Eye. Leave A Trace spotlights the glowing synths and compelling vocals that simply cannot be mistaken for any band but CHVRCHES. The full album is set for a Sept. 25 release, and you can pre-order it here.
Father Dude – Bring Us Back [etcetc]
If he didn’t have you at the name Father Dude, he’ll get you with his smooth, lush vocals on the latest etcetc release, Bring Us Back. Add GRMM and Maxx Baer on production and Gabe Lambirth on the guitar, and you have a bonafide blend of R&B, funk, and electronic goodness. Catch the single plus two remixes via Beatport here.
