Following up on last week’s one-year anniversary edition of Disco Diaries, we thought we’d keep the dance vibes going strong and dive straight into another week of indie and nu disco favorites. As an added bonus, there are a few freebies in the mix, so tune in and bliss out!
Cyclist feat. Jocelyn Alice – Heartbeat Speed [Toolroom]
We open things up at a sultry pace with Cyclist’s collaboration with pop vocalist Jocelyn Alice, the aptly titled Heartbeat Speed. Alice’s angelic vocals dance alongside low-slung synth lines and relaxed guitar chords to give the track a sunset iridescence. It is available as part of Toolroom Records’ Poolside Miami 2015 compilation album with other disco and house gems from Keljet, Boys Get Hurt, Pat Lok and M.A.N.D.Y. You can pick up the whole compilation here.
Citizens! – Waiting For Your Lover [Kitsune]
Citizens! are back with another electropop ballad in the form of Waiting For Your Lover, the follow up to Lighten Up off their forthcoming album European Soul. This track is produced by AlunaGeorge’s George Reid and it carries with it all the infectious hooks reminiscent of their older hits True Romance and Reptile. Look for European Soul out April 13 on the acclaimed French label Kitsune and listen to more Citizens! tunes on their SoundCloud here.
Tensnake & Jacques Lu Cont feat. Jamie Lidell – Feel The Love (Eau Claire Remix)
Eau Claire puts a lush and funky spin on Tensnake and Jacques Lu Cont’s Feel The Love to rightfully earn her spot among the track’s official remixers like Jodd Goddard, Boys Noize, and Kaytranda. The DC producer completely reimagines the house original but keeps Jamie Lidell’s seductive vocals as the driving force behind her remix. She is graciously offering it as a free download, so be sure to grab your copy here.
Chromatics – I Can Never Be Myself When You’re Around
Becoming something of a favorite of Ryan Gosling, the Chromatics have had their music featured in his movie, Drive, and more recently soundtracked his first movie as a director, Lost River. Their track I Can Never Be Myself When You’re Around opens with a steady bass guitar cadence in tandem with lead singer Ruth Radalet’s breathy vocals before sharp synth lines cut into the rhythm. Though Portland-based, the group continues to lead the Italo disco movement in the United States. Head to their producer Johnny Jewel’s SoundCloud page to grab your free copy of the track here.
The Legendary Tigerman – Do Come Home (Xinobi Moullinex Remix)
Do Come Home is Xinobi and Moullinex’s dual remix of The Legendary Tigerman’s blues rock original. Both of these producers are a part of the Discotexas label and have been known to remix each other’s work, so it should come as no surprise that their styles are in complete sync on this remix. Keeping the vocals intact, they speed up the tempo just a bit and add in an ebbing oscillating effect for a shimmering atmospheric finish. You can check out more of their work on the Discotexas Soundcloud here.
