It’s that time again! Disco Diaries has arrived to give you just the funky fix you were looking for, and in my humble opinion, this week’s picks are particularly delightful. Click play to enjoy the latest and greatest in nu disco, indie dance, electro pop, and funk/soul. Cheers!
Mystery Skulls – Paralyzed (Aeroplane Remix) [Warner]
When you combine Los Angeles-based indie/electronica band Mystery Skulls with one of nu disco’s ultimate O.G.’s, Vito De Luca (a.k.a. Aeroplane), you know that the product will be a 10 on the groovy meter. This track, along with five other catchy remixes including ones from Jimmy Edgar and Ghosts Of Venice, is on Mystery Skulls’ new Paralyzed Remix EP–get it here. If you’re enjoying this, be sure to check out Aeroplane’s latest (amazing) mixtape, the Not-So-Monthly July Mix, here.
Jordan Rakei – Add The Bassline (Nehzuil Remix)
Spending time with a special someone recently? If you’re ever in need of some slow jams to add to that “special” playlist, look no further than Jordan Rakei and Nehzuil. As if their tunes aren’t sexy enough on their own, they have combined their powers to really set the mood with this one. If you’re digging this, you can stream and purchase Rakei’s recent Soul Has No Tempo EP here.
Tobtok ft. Emil Heró – Higher (Oliver Nelson & Skogsrå Remix) [Good Soldier]
If you have ever read a Disco Diaries post, it’s likely that you’ve heard about Tobtok, Oliver Nelson, and/or Skogsra, three of the ultimate tastemakers of this genre. Lo and behold, we’ve finally been graced with a tune that involves all three of the funk masters in one–truly a gift sent from the disco Gods to “take you higher.” Beatport purchase available here.
Lenno feat. The Electric Sons – Wake Up [Universal Finland]
It’s not very often that you hear a nu disco and progressive electro fusion, and if you do, it’s hard to imagine it being so easy on the ears. This track, my friends, is a musical unicorn. Support the Finish producer Lenno & indie/electro band The Electric Sons by snatching your copy from Beatport here.
DJ Cassidy feat. R. Kelly – Make The World Go Round (Gigamesh Remix)
Yes, you read it right: another nu disco O.G., Gigamesh, has remixed none other than the man, the legend, R. Kelly. Need I say more? Didn’t think so. Free download here.
MIX OF THE WEEK: NEUS – Smile, It’s Summer
After literally falling in love with his remix of Phantogram’s Fall In Love, I was thrilled that French producer NEUS released an 80-minute mixtape, filled with tunes of similar caliber. Peep the tracklist here and throw this one on next time you’re at the pool, beach, or really any activity under the shining sun.
