I’ve seen the UK Phenomenon that is Disclosure perform live at three festivals this year, and they’ve always impressed. However, I never saw them DJ until last Friday at Sound Nightclub. Although the duo had a few shows in SoCal recently, I knew I had to see them at Sound Nightclub’s Friday night Framework parties. On these nights, the crowd is different. You run into a lot of warm personalities that enjoy deep house and minimal techno; I even met a few fellow burners. The lighting production is always outstanding as well.
Opening the night was an up-and-coming Dirtybird player by the name of Justin Jay (pictured above). I’ve been following him ever since I heard his brutal track Static, which throws down some seriously aggressive basslines. When this monstrous banger got dropped later on by Disclosure, the whole place felt its enormous fury. Later on after Disclosure’s set, Justin Jay got back on the decks to close out the night.
My favorite DJ of the night had to be T. Williams (pictured above). I wasn’t that familiar with him before he came on, but he blew me away with his roof-bumpin’ house and garage tracks. He had a confidence in his smile and body language that said, “I’m not here to waste anyone’s time with filler, so here’s what I consider proper house grooves.” He’s definitely on my radar now.
Half past midnight, the crowd rejoiced as the Disclosure lads approached their console and kicked off their set with Guy Lawrence was rocking an In-N-Out T-shirt (pictured above)–a sure sign that he’s enjoying his visit to the West coast. Compared to their live shows, their set was less vocal and more instrumental. However, they did of course play some of their biggest hits like What’s In Your Head and White Noise, which ignited the most lively reaction from the crowd. For a tiny taste of the action, see the video clip of them below dropping the track J.A.W.S that they co-produced with Luxury.
If you missed out on this incredible show, don’t worry; there are plenty of amazing Framework events coming this month at Sound. Damian Lazarus will spin tonight and Art Department will take the decks on Halloween.
