Dirty electro. That perfectly classifies both tracks on this post, starting with Hard to Breathe, originally by Angellisa and remixed by Lazy Jay. The “Reanimation Dub”, as the Belgium-based producer calls it, is an electro-techno mixture of dirty beats and basslines. As a whole, this song seems to move along comfortably at its own pace, as if to say, “Hey, I’m playing for me, not for you.” Each element comes and goes perfectly, adding just what it needs to and nothing more. Go ahead, let it take over.
In stark contrast to the previous track, After Dark is a somewhat more lighthearted if not more twisted tune. As he seemingly toys around with carnival-sounding synths and distortion effects, Lazy Jay creates another dark and altogether trippy soundscape to explore. One simple line–“always sneak out after dark”–comes in occasionally to remind us of the overall premise of this piece. My personal favorite part of the track starts at about 3:30 when the bitcrusher and a myriad of other effects begin to really affect the track in a creepily groovy way.
