The original mix of Higher is a great track in its own right with a perfect house-like breakdown and lyrics that evolve into a more ominous wub-wub. The contrast between these two parts of the song blend together perfectly and break it up in a way that keeps the listener on the edge of their seat.
The Tommy Trash remix is quite possibly my favorite track on the EP, and I believe it has the most potential for festival play throughout the summer. It starts out fairly similar to the original mix and quickly changes into a much more in-your-face and intense version of the track. The Brodinksi remix can quickly be identified as one of his remixes with his signature dark synths and vocal tone changes. It’s a great listen as well that sometimes seems to almost delve into the realms of trap. Lastly, the EP includes a new track titled 2112, which is an extremely funky and futuristic-sounding track that complements Higher and its remixes very well.
The Higher EP is a terrific release for Destructo and fits the Boys Noize Records bill extremely well with its slightly dark but foot-stomping synths. The remixes are also expertly crafted and differ enough to really stand out on their own.
