Having been signed just this year to Andy C’s Ram Records, newcomers Delta Heavy have already set for themselves the highest of expectations from the drum n’ bass world. Delta Heavy was borne of British pals Ben Hall and Si James when they decided to create Abort, a smash hit that swept dancefloors in the UK and beyond.
Space Time was the record whose bassline Andy C pulled to create the first monstrous (double) drop of his compilation Nightlife 5, and rightfully so. This track sports an in-your-face sound that relentlessly assaults the ears with overwhelming quantities of rhythm and bass. I guess we shouldn’t be too surprised though, since the duo stated in their own words that they like to combine their “love of soundscapes, house, techno, and the 80s with the impact and punch of an unexpected blow to the face.” Subtle. Similar things can be said about Abort, which is borderline hardstyle in terms of intensity.
It’s a good thing that aptly-named Delta Heavy takes their time and releases quality work; Abort apparently took upwards of three years. You could say it’s a little early to draw conclusions just two tracks into their career, but I think the duo is well poised to take the DnB world by storm. Keep a watch on the Delta force for some audacious basslines well into the future, and be sure to check out the brief video/trailer for Space Time below!
