For some reason, Deadmau5 happens to be this monstrously popular artist with a rather small remix library (that is, remixes of his original tracks). Why you might ask? It’s probably because few artists are confident enough to tamper with the quality of stuff Joel Zimmerman puts out. His music, although at times incredibly simple, is constructed with absolute precision and the utmost technical skill.
Stepping up to the plate this past week on remix duty of Deadmau5’s Raise Your Weapon were two artists from complete opposite sides of the spectrum. On one hand we have Madeon, a teenage nu-comer who splashed onto the scene at the #5 spot on last year’s Top 25 Tracks of 2010 with his sensational, hands in the air, doped down and danced up remix of Pendulum’s The Island. He hasn’t changed much of his formula in tackling this Mau5 track, but you can tell that his nu disco sound is updated and a bit refined.
So who’s opposite the aforementioned nu disco prodigy? Noisia, of course! The trio does exactly what you’d expect them to with this sassy vocal track, adding pulsing wobbles, technical drums, and a subtle (yet eerily strong) sense of a coming apocalypse. If you enjoyed their rendition of Katy Perry’s E.T. you won’t be disappointed by this one.
