While America may be a world leader in EDM at the moment, trance is still has a very strong association with Europe, with Holland and the UK almost having a monopoly on the scene. But US based producers Thomas Datt (pictured, New York) and Magnus (Seattle) have challenged the status-quo with their latest track, showing that trance from the States is also a force to be reckoned with.
Binary Complex is an interesting fusion of the duo’s individual production styles, with the uplifting and atmospheric sounds of Datt very present in the long and chilled break, along with some plucky arps and simple riffs forming the backbone of the track. But what really makes Binary Complex come alive is the psy-trance influence of Magnus, with some simple-yet-tough percussion, vicious acid lines, and his signature synth hooks–distant and heaped with masses of reverb.
Binary Complex is out now on Borderline as a Beatport Exclusive.
