Lana Del Rey’s third album Ultraviolence is one of the biggest releases of the year, but I never thought I’d see her name attached to an official Firepower release. And yet, that’s exactly what happened when label head honcho Datsik transformed the album’s title track into a mellow dubstep cut.
In stark contrast to Datsik’s usual aggressive style of dubstep, his Del Rey remix is a understated and melancholic. Tweaking Lana’s unmistakeable voice and inserting a series of soaring synths, minimalistic high hats, and a rumbling bassline, Datsik has delivered a subtle and beautiful remix that puts to rest any criticisms about whether dubstep is still alive and well.
You can pick up Datsik’s Ultraviolence remix on Beatport Sept. 23.
