Canada’s rising EDM star is back. Exploding onto the scene last year with one of the nastiest sounds anywhere, Charlie Darker now returns intent on destroying nightclubs and raves with a pair of tracks that will leave you itching to fistpump, Corner Kids and and a remix of Rhythm Mode by Black Tiger Sex Machine. I spoke with Charlie recently, and when I asked him about his continually developing sound, he said “Corner Kids feels more experimental than anything I’ve done to date; it’s a totally new sound for me. I’ve wanted to make songs that could be played at the darkest and craziest rave amongst the hardest tracks and be memorable for the crowd. It’s hard to make something that really stands out if the music doesn’t have lyrics. I think the best way to accomplish this is with unique synthesis and interesting sounds.”
Corner Kids is a tightly woven four-to-the-floor electro demon that makes me feel like putting my sunglasses on and getting sweaty. Think Nicky Romero on steroids. When asked about the production elements of the track, Charlie stated, “I wanted to really highlight the main “growling” sound and perhaps use in a way that hasn’t been done. So many electro house tracks are using talking bass sounds now, and I think it’s really cool, but I think the way that people are using them has been fairly constant.” The other release is his remix of Rhythm Mode by Black Tiger Sex Machine, a dark and dirty beat with a really fun drop to spazz out to.
