Mexico-born, London-based producer Betoko has made quite a name for himself over the years, releasing house music in a variety of styles from electro to prog. Nowadays, he’s in a deep and techy kind of mood as he brings his smooth-yet-catchy style to Suara with his latest EP, Dance On My Feet.
The title track is essentially tech house, with a solid groove, a funky bassline, and a repetitive-yet-catchy vocal. There’s a nice atmosphere about the track in terms of production, with an almost ’80s-esque feel that has hints of Michael Cassette in it. It’s an energetic and club-oriented track which should be a dancefloor favourite, but things aren’t quite the same with track two. U R My Sunshine rapidly changes the style, with a very deep and minimal intro that grooves along sedately with more ’80s-style synth lines. The full majesty of Betoko’s talent, however, is revealed during the break, which is a serene cross between a chillout track and a film score, before dropping back into deep house.
It’s a great start to the year for Betoko and another killer signing for Suara. Dance On My Feet is out now on Beatport.
