Daft Punk’s Get Lucky: The Aftermath

How high was the anticipation for Daft Punk’s new single? If the early sales figures are any indication–anticipation was VERY high! Get Lucky is currently sitting at the #1 spot on the UK Singles chart (below), up two positions since last week. The Official Charts Company just released a mid-week sales update, confirming that the French duo have indeed overtaken previous top-spot holder Rudimental in sales by 28,000 copies. While Rudimental crossed the finish line in first place last week with their tune Waiting All Night featuring Ella Eyre, Daft is poised to grab the top spot for the first time in their career when the official chart is released this weekend. The duo notched the third position last week, selling over 60,000 copies in only two days.

Prior Daft song One More Time was the group’s previous highest charting tune on the UK Singles chart, making it all the way up to the second position back in the year 2000. If Get Lucky maintains its top position until the end of the week, Daft Punk will join fellow Frenchman David Guetta as one of a very few French artists to land the top position on the UK Singles Chart in its 61 year history.

Those of you wondering how Get Lucky is doing in the US will have to wait a little while longer–Billboard’s official chart compiling airplays and sales numbers hasn’t been released yet. However, expect a high chart position for the French Duo as they currently sit at the #7 spot on the US iTunes singles chart and have already topped Spotify’s most streamed record in the US on a single day, formerly held by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’ Thrift Shop.
