I’m not sure if it was the over-saturation of electro-house/trance at EDC or what, but I am definitely missing me some minimal house. A couple months ago I was introduced to a hot new producer who’s definitely got a unique, feel-good kind of sound. You know, the kind of music you want to kick back and chill with, mojito in hand. It’s got that alcoholic punch you’re used to (read: heavy bass) with a fresh minty twist (read: uplifting melodies and vocal samples). Joy Orbison definitely delivers the summer vibe with these two tracks off his latest EP, The Shrew Would Have Cushioned The Blow, released on AUS Music back in February of this year.
Easily my favorite track on the EP is The Shrew Would Have Cushioned The Blow. It takes about a minute and a half to get really started but the lead-in is extremely smooth and inviting. I feel good listening to it as I write this.
So Derobe is a bass-heavy track with some nice high and relaxing melodies. The vocals are nice and soft and warm, and together with the simple but effective beat, this track is a nice package.
Resident Advisor has a full review of the EP here as well.
