CRi Shares Intriguing Tale Of Kidnap In ‘Oda’ Video
CRi - Oda (Original Mix)

CRi is a Montreal-based producer mixing ambient and beats to create whispery tracks with subtle future garage rhythms. He’s releasing his next EP, Oda, in less than a couple weeks, and he’s decided to offer an early free download of the title track along with the music video.

Oda could be CRi’s breakout song. It’s more beat-oriented than anything on his previous EP, Eclipse, and resembles something that could’ve been made by Mount Kimbie. Plus, the music video, directed by a French video production collective going by the name Les Gamins (The Kids), is intriguing enough to hook people who initially might not even like the music.

When it opens up, we see a kid preparing for something, both physically and mentally. He’s lifting weights to get into shape, practicing yoga, sharpening his pencil, and looking for clues in mysterious books and photos, seemingly to find the answers to extremely important riddles. Astro Boy plays on his TV in the background, suggesting there might be some evil forces with which he’s doing battle.

The music ramps up at the perfect moment–when we finally see the game that he’s been preparing for. You probably still won’t know what’s going on, but you’ll definitely see that the stakes are very high.

You can download Oda for free at CRi’s SoundCloud. The full EP will be released on May 19, both digitally on CRi’s Bandcamp, and physically, as a limited edition 12″, hand stamped by CRi himself. There’s only going to be 100 copies, so don’t sleep on it!
