While the more popular house styles like electro and progressive have sped up over the years and hovered around 128bpm and above, there’s still an ocean of deep house tunes to groove to around 120bpm. Give an ear to the smooth track Cream by a new and unidentified producer who goes by Claptone. Upon my first time listening to it, I fell deeply in love with its classy piano roll and its music video (see below), which takes a page from the silent film era’s book. The Cream EP also holds another track called Good To You. This one has more energy and rocks a funky guitar melody!
The mysterious Claptone first burst onto the scene last Fall with an EP titled She Loves You. Its title track is slightly more uptempo, techy, and reveals a nice violin-draped, vocal breakdown sure to hit the very soul of every dancefloor. Although not much is yet known other than he wears a long, pointed-nose facemask to hide his identity, he’s off to a great start with tracks as golden as these. Definitely an artist worth following, check out his live mix recorded in Berlin for more of his style.
