After building a reputation as a graffiti artist in the Netherlands, Laidback Luke (real name Luke van Scheppingen) began his career in music. Over the past few years, this DJ/Producer with Filipino roots has soared higher and higher, going from being the Netherlands’ brightest house talent to one of the biggest names in global dance music. Laidback Luke teams up with Brooklyn, New York based singer/songwriter Jonathan Mendelsohn to produce yet another monster track in 2010 with Till Tonight. Last year Jonathan teamed up with Nic Chagall (of Cosmic Gate) to produce an emotionally touching vocal track called This Moment.
With Luke’s laidback groovy sound and Jonathan’s uplifting vocals Till Tonight was just destined to be yet another dance floor banger. Now I’m a really huge fan of Laidback Luke’s, but I felt that the original mix wasn’t all that it could be. There was just something missing…
Enter legendary Dutch DJ/Producer Ferry Corsten to throw down yet another fantastic remix. Ferry’s Touch on Russian DJ/Producer Bobina’s Invisible Touch last year is just one example of why he has earned the right to call his remixes “Ferry’s Fix.” He is on a level of mastery as a producer with a range of sounds that cross many genres going from progressive house to techno to trance and hard dance (from his earlier days). Ferry injects an edgier trance bassline, a sprinkle of techy synths, and a more distinct uplifting melody to really bring out the emotions of Jonathan’s vocals. Ferry’s Fix refines Till Tonight and raises it to a true big room level where crowds everywhere with truly open their arms wide and let the night take them away.
As Electric Zoo approaches, I look forward to hearing Laidback Luke’s live set and I am eager to hear what he has in store for us with his upcoming artist album.
