Hardstyle, in all its face-pounding glory, is set to be the “next big thing” in American EDM. Hard dance brands like Q-dance are already booking stages at festivals like TomorrowWorld and EDC Vegas as well as filling the Shrine in LA, providing evidence an impending storm of 140+ BPM kickdrum is about to make its way from Amsterdam to US shores. One of the biggest names in the scene, Coone, was kind enough to take the time to educate us at LessThan3 about his favorite hardstyle tracks of the last year in his own words, so pull up a chair, put on a neck brace, and school yourselves in the finer sounds of hard dance.
1. Coone – Magical
This track tells a story without any vocals. I’m very proud about this one because the feeling I wanted to create is almost as perfect as I had in mind. Emotional hardstyle!
2. Brennan Heart feat. Jonathan Mendelsohn – Imaginary
One of the most catchy and best tracks of 2013. Jonathan Mendelsohn did an amazing job with the vocals and the track itself is produced really well and logically.
3. TNT & Audiofreq – Screwdriver
I just love the way these guys are combining the recent house drops within hardstyle! TNT has a trademark on this when it comes to hardstyle. I wish I had come up with it first!
4. Crypsis – Break Down Low
Maybe the most important “party” hardstyle track of this year. Everywhere you play it, the people go berserk!
5. Zatox & Villain – Action
I just love the sound that Zatox provides. Together with my buddy MC Villain, who came up with the powerful lyrics, Zatox made an instant dancefloor banger.
6. Psyko Punkz feat. Murda – Trippy Hippie
My homies Psyko are doing it again! Also the vocals by Murda are already legendary: “Bad b*tches at the afterparty!”
7. Hard Driver – Came To This
This is the best track of 2013 for me. I just love how much drive this track has. The vocals are rough, the intro is banging, and the melody is just epic. I knew it would be one of my favorites from the moment I first heard it.
8. Hardwell & Dyro feat. Bright Lights – Never Say Goodbye (Wildstylez Remix)
It’s really cool to see that house and hardstyle are coming together! Wildstylez did an amazing job with his remix–I think it’s even better then the original.
