Looking back at 2013, you would be hard-pressed to find an electronic producer who hit the big time and yet retained a deep, underground cult following like Maceo Plex. Continuing that trend, the techno titan returns to his very own Ellum Audio record label with the Conjure One EP, a three-track tour de force that puts his prodigious production skills on full display.

Kickstarting the EP is Conjure Balearia, a soaring, melancholic offering that absolutely explodes into a rolling, snarky bassline–it has peak-time written all over it. Conjure Drama is a rich, dark, grumbling affair that transports the listener through low end heaven, and it features a bassline so irresistible it should be criminal. Closing out the EP is Conjure Bass, an apt name if ever there was one. Deep, trippy, and undoubtedly foreboding, MP employs erratic synths and some seriously sinister sounds to sweep you away on a flowing river of darkness. With each track more varied and experimental than the next, it’s clear that Maceo Plex is going to continue to push the boundaries well into 2014. You can pick up the EP in May via Ellum Audio.
