Minimal tech is one of the subgenres that seems to always get the short end of the stick when it comes to recognition in the EDM community and frankly, it’s a shame. Hopefully Swiss tech/house DJ Deetron is here to change that. Deetron’s recent original release Collide is a wonderful example of how minimal tech can win the heart of the masses.
Crisp sounds are the most important elements within the song. It’s a nice change from hearing overdone bass lines and droning vocals on the typical tech/house track. The main beat sounds slightly like I would imagine a harp would play underwater. This isn’t to say that Deetron does exclusively flowy stuff; he recently remixed DJ Hell and P.Diddy’s The DJ and it’s admittedly a great deal harder than Collide. Versatile style is always important to keep a fresh sound, and Deetron seems to have that down pat.
His recent remix of And I’m (So In Love With You) by Jason Kendig and Andy Butler was recently released on Beatport. Be sure to give it a listen and if you’re in Europe or Australia, you can check him out live during his upcoming tour dates throughout October.
