I’ve been on a glo-fi binge recently; the style really has me addicted to its smooth and sensual sound. It might not be as big of a new genre as moombahton, but its scene is really growing these days. For those unfamiliar with the genre, take a listen to Rhiannon by Essáy & Stumbleine. You can tell it’s glo-fi by its gentle, downtempo beat, dreamy ambience, and heavily filtered vocal samples.
Essáy has a new EP out for the new year as well, featuring the tracks Morning Mountain and A Cold Day. On the former, he teamed up with Rhian Sheehan to deliver a tune abundant with light pads and simple melodies. The latter is more of an experimental journey of a track, clocking in at nine minutes and wrought with deep bass.
