Scotland’s Clouds is back, following up a slew of hot 2011 releases with his monster EP Optic. Fat kicks and wise usage of electro synths make this EP one of the strongest standalone releases so far this year, giving DJs across the board a tool for dancefloor domination.
Optic‘s title track completely steals the show, cuz it just straight up thumps. While many of today’s top producers drown out the bare kick/clap formula with basslines and Dutch synths, Clouds takes a very unique approach with this tune, building the majority of the track with drums, sprinkling a few decorative synths throughout. The result is something massive beyond belief–just give it a listen. Also featured on the EP is Vaults, which stands as an unconventional, funky electro track with a driving beat that’s going to get some heads boppin’. Finally, I’ve tagged on Been Warned, a favorite of mine from Clouds that came out in 2011. It’s a bit more ready for a conventional house set than most of his tunes, with a strong, driving synth and a dominating, constant kick.
