Burgeoning Russian/Ukranian duo Teddy Killerz have just dropped another neurofunk heater on Bad Taste Recordings entitled Scary, a storming follow up to their recent dancefloor annihilator New Drums. For this 2-track EP, however, Teddy Killerz team up with fellow Russian dnb producer Nphonix to unleash two tracks that can only be described as cybernetic pandemonium. Since their huge dubstep tune Fat Sax released earlier this year, Teddy Killerz members Place 2b and Paimon have been amassing support from the industry’s biggest names like Noisia and Skrillex, while Nphonix has been delivering countless bangers across major labels like DSCI4 and Cyanide Recordings. Their newest collaboration is an evil yet rewarding journey through the darkest, dankest sub-level of drum & bass.
Scary is an absolute monster of a tune–with razor sharp teeth, menacing claws, and a ferocious growl. The tune is as relentless as dnb comes, starting with an uneasy series of shrieking sounds, eventually building to a bombardment of 16th notes and perpetual bass drops. Of particular interest is the tune’s transition into a staggered, swing rhythm, just after the 3 minute mark–the drum edits during this phrase are mind-blowing to say the least. The next track Earth Shaker is appropriately named, as its bellowing Reese bass tears across the tune’s open soundstage, while the drums beat maniacally in the foreground. From composition to production, this EP is top-shelf material–now available on Bad Taste Recordings.
