King dirtybird Claude VonStroke’s third artist album Urban Animal draws on a wide array of modern sounds and gritty sampling for that streetwise beast feel. CVS reached equally wide to enlist the help of 11 of today’s most forward-thinking producers to further diversify the creature in Urban Animal RMXS, out now on dirtybird.
Solomun kicks us off with a deep approach to The Clapping Track, followed up by Kill Frenzy’s twice-as-trippy take on Dood.
Dixon, Resident Advisor’s top DJ of 2013, contributes a spaced-out tech mix of the album’s title track, while Justin Jay impresses with his deep scoop of Sugar & Cinnamon topped with extra groove.
Photek was a fantastic choice for a fresh look at Oakland Rope, applying his D&B chops to supercharge the breakbeat tune with a fast-paced patchwork of hat fills and new pummelling drops. The quirky Plasma Jelly gets reimagined in a dark, damp place by Portland’s Eprom with spooky square-wave synths and a thick layer of bass.
